Can my iPhone/Apple Watch be used?
The watch app supports Apple Watch Series 4 (i.e., supports watchOS 9) and later models, but some functions (such as custom HRV complications) require models supporting watchOS 10 and later. The phone app supports iPhone 8 (i.e., supports iOS 16) and later models. What if Apple Watch data is not syncing with the phone? What if watch face complication data is not refreshing?
Apple Watch data synchronization is mainly done through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so there is a certain delay in data transmission (about 1-3 minutes). Please check that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on for your watch and phone, and that no modes affecting Wi-Fi functions (like low power mode) are enabled. Due to Apple’s limitations, Apple Watch complications refresh automatically at best every 15 minutes, but 100% success is not guaranteed. You can manually tap the complication to enter the OtterLife App to manually refresh the data. What if “OtterLife” cannot be found in “Complications” when adding watch face components, or if the widget on the watch suddenly turns black? What if the calorie deficit, HRV, or body energy expenditure widgets disappear? What if the middle part does not display?
- The most common situation is that the Apple Watch app is updating; just wait for the automatic update to finish. If it remains black, please go to “Watch” - “My Watch” and scroll to the bottom to check the installation status of “OtterLife”, or go to the App Store on the watch, scroll to the bottom to find Account - Purchased, find “OtterLife” and tap to download.
- If the “Watch” app on the phone shows empty, it might be an Apple bug, and it’s not necessarily empty on the watch.
- Please check the app list on the watch to see if “OtterLife” is installed. You can check the installation status at the bottom of “Watch” - “My Watch”.
- If you have successfully installed it on the watch, you can long-press the watch face - “Edit” - swipe left to switch to “Complications”, find “OtterLife” and add it.
- If “OtterLife” cannot be found in “Complications” on the watch, open “Watch” on the phone, find OtterLife - “Do Not Show on Apple Watch” - scroll to the bottom of “Watch” to find OtterLife and reinstall it.
What if it says “Complication not available” when adding watch face components on the phone?
- This issue is mainly an Apple Watch bug, usually appearing when the app updates.
- Check if OtterLife is successfully installed on the Apple Watch. If it is, you can long-press the watch face - “Edit” - swipe left to switch to “Complications”, find “OtterLife” and add it.
- If “OtterLife” cannot be found in “Complications” on the watch, open “Watch” on the phone, find OtterLife - “Do Not Show on Apple Watch” - scroll to the bottom of “Watch” to find OtterLife and reinstall it.
What if the App installation fails or is stuck on installing on the watch?
- First, go to “Watch” - “My Watch” and scroll to the bottom to check the installation status of “OtterLife”.
- Go to the App Store on the watch, scroll to the bottom to find Account - Purchased, find “OtterLife” and tap to download.
- Check if the phone and watch are connected to the same Wi-Fi? —> Disconnect and reconnect the watch Wi-Fi, turn on and off airplane mode.
- Is the Bluetooth connection normal? —> Disconnect and reconnect the watch Bluetooth.
- If the phone is using mobile data —> Check if there is a pop-up on the watch confirming the download.
- Are multiple Apps downloading at the same time? —> Stop all, then download one by one.
- If none of the above works, try long-pressing the digital crown to restart the watch. If it still cannot be solved, please contact customer service for feedback.
What if the watch widget shows “No Data” or cannot update normally?
- Please check if the watch was just unlocked; data cannot be updated in the locked state.
- If there is no data right after downloading the app: Check if the corresponding permissions are authorized? Please go to “Settings” - “Health” - “Apps and Services” - “OtterLife” on the watch, and select “Turn On All”.
- If there was data before: 1. Check if the current app version is the latest; older versions might have issues that have been fixed. 2. When you wear your Apple Watch normally, your HRV data is automatically updated every 2-5 hours. Please understand that data updates and push notifications may be delayed due to Apple’s system reasons. You can also open the “Mindfulness” App on the watch, select the “Breathe” function and complete a session to update the latest data.
- If none of the above works, please contact customer service at otterlife@iftech.io for feedback.
Why can’t I change the custom watch face? Why is there no change on the watch after changing the watch face theme? Theme setting failed.
- Currently, theme replacement is only supported on Apple Watch; it is not supported on Huawei or other series watches.
- Currently, only the “HRV” widget customization is supported; customization of “Calorie Deficit” and “Body Energy” widgets is not supported.
- There are currently 2 HRV widgets; please add the “Custom HRV” widget instead of “HRV Index”.
- Check if the Apple Watch version is watchOS 10 or later? And is the OtterLife app successfully installed on the Apple Watch? The widget can only be added after successful installation.
- When syncing custom themes, you need to keep the “OtterLife” app open on the Apple Watch and the screen on. This requires both the watch and phone Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to be on and connected to the same Bluetooth, avoiding modes like low power mode that might affect network synchronization.
- If the above still doesn’t solve it, reinstall the OtterLife app on the Apple Watch; it might be caused by the phone app being upgraded but the watch app not yet upgraded.
What is the Body Energy Expenditure watch face?
- Body Energy Expenditure is an estimate of the energy used to complete a task. It is a metric for measuring the energy intensity of exercise and other daily activities, measured in METs (kcal/(kg*h)).
- Because everyone’s metabolism is different, Body Energy Expenditure can be used as a metric to measure the intensity of the activity itself.
- For example: Walking (about 3 km/h) as a 2 METs activity requires twice the energy of resting.
- When your activity intensity increases, your metabolic rate also increases, so you will start to lose weight.
- The watch face updates every 20 minutes. Here is the correspondence between the watch face text and Body Energy Expenditure:
- Not losing weight: MET ≤ 4
- Losing weight: 4 MET < MET ≤ 5
- Losing weight fast: MET > 5
- No data: Unauthorized or no data for more than 24 hours
Real-time monitoring is turned on, but the HRV data on the watch face is not updating.
There are several reasons:- If the watch face has no data, but the watch/phone app also has no data: This is because there is no heart rate data during this period, so real-time stress cannot be generated. This is caused by the lack of data from the Apple data source. You can check Apple Health - Heart Rate - Data Details for comparison.
- If the watch face has no data, but the watch/phone app has data: This is due to the Apple Watch watch face widget refresh limitation. Apple watch faces support refreshing at best every 15 minutes, but whether the refresh is successful is controlled by Apple, and it is not guaranteed to refresh every 15 minutes.
- Under normal circumstances, when there is heart rate data, the data in the app updates every 6 minutes, and the watch face data updates every 15 minutes.
